The Kutch district of Gujarat has the most number of rivers which is 97 in total. The Narmada, Tapi and Purna rivers are all perennial.

The release of the first full-length Gujarati talkie, Narsinh Mehta on 9^th April 1932 marks the true beginning of Gujarati cinema. It was directed by Nanubhai Vakil, produced by Sagar Movietone, and starred Mohanlala, Marutirao, Master Manhar and Miss Mehtab.

On his return from South Africa, Gandhi’s first Ashram in India was established in the Kochrab area of Ahmedabad on 25^th May 1915. The Ashram was then shifted on 17^th June 1917 to a piece of open land on the banks of the river Sabarmati. It was called Sabarmati Ashram.
