Binod Bihari Mahato created the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, a state political party in the Indian state of Jharkhand. The JMM’s president is Shibu Soren. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is also a powerful political force in Odisha and neighbouring states. It’s electoral symbol is a bow and arrow.

Kamal Chakravarty, the editor of Chaibasa’s ‘Tarun Shakti’ magazine, was sentenced to prison for his anti-British writings. This occurred in 1929, one year after a lengthy strike in TISCO.

In Hazaribagh, St. Columbus College became the epicentre of the freedom movement. Many students joined the campaign and dropped out of school. One of them was ram Vinod Singh, who was one of the college students’ leaders and was apprehended by British authorities. The title of Jatin Bagha was bestowed upon him.

The Santhal revolt (1855 – 1856) began in 1855, led by Sidhu, Kanhu, Chand and Bhairav. The uprising was also known as Santhal Hul or Hul revolt, and it occurred as a result of exploitation by thikadars, moneylenders, and the police.

Because the British authority began suffocating the native rulers, Pandey Ganpat Rai joined the freedom struggle. In August of 1857, he led a revolt of soldiers in the Doranda (ranchi) army camp. On 21^st April 1858, he was sentenced to death.

Tilka Manjhi was executed by the British on 13^th January 1785 in Bhagalpur. Tilka Manjhi’s activities might be considered as the first serious attempt by indigenous peoples to resist British control.

The congress established a non-cooperation committee in Palamu under the presidentship of Sher Muhammad Hassan. This body eventually evolved into the Congress Committee.

Thakur Vishwanath Shahdeo was born on 12^th August 1817, in Satranji. Vishwanath was a nagbanshi rajput who was related to the maharaja of Palakot’s Chota Nagpur. He resolved to fight for the country’s independence, but he awaited an opportunity to join the anti-British campaign.

Many women were involved in Mahatma Gandhi’s salt movement, which began on 6^th April 1930. During the salt movement in Hazaribagh, Shailbala Ray opposed the salt legislation in Santhal Pargana, and Smt. Saraswati and Smt. Sadha Devi were detained. In 1941, in Dumka, Mahadevi Kejriwal decided to defy the salt rule.
