Agriculture

Bihar GK · कृषि

📋Quick Overview

Agriculture is the backbone of Bihar's economy, employing over 80% of the rural workforce. Bihar is the leader in Makhana (fox nut) production globally and nationally significant for litchi, maize, and vegetables. Despite fertile land, agricultural productivity is hampered by annual floods, fragmented land holdings, and poor post-harvest infrastructure.

Bihar produces 90% of the world's Makhana (fox nut/Euryale ferox). The 'Mithila Makhana' received GI (Geographical Indication) tag in 2022. Main producing districts: Darbhanga, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Supaul.
