Ancient History

Bihar GK · प्राचीन इतिहास

📋Quick Overview

Ancient Bihar was the epicenter of Indian civilization. The Magadha kingdom rose to become the most powerful empire in Indian history, giving rise to the Mauryan Empire under Chandragupta Maurya and later the Gupta Empire — called the 'Golden Age of India'. Bihar also holds the distinction of hosting Vaishali, considered the world's first republic, and being the birthplace of both Jainism (Mahavira) and a critical center of Buddhism (Bodh Gaya, Nalanda).

Vaishali (modern Vaishali district, Bihar) is considered the world's first democratic republic — the Vajjian Confederacy (Lichchhavi republic) functioned here around 6th century BCE, predating Greek democracy.
