Freedom Movement

Bihar GK · स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन

📋Quick Overview

Bihar played a pivotal role in India's freedom struggle. The Champaran Satyagraha (1917) was Mahatma Gandhi's very first satyagraha on Indian soil — launched in Bihar against the oppressive indigo plantation system. Bihar also produced great freedom fighters like Veer Kunwar Singh (1857 revolt), Jayaprakash Narayan, and produced India's first President Rajendra Prasad.

Rajkumar Shukla, a poor indigo farmer from Champaran, traveled to Lucknow to personally persuade Gandhi to visit Champaran. This led to the historic Champaran Satyagraha (1917).
