Tissues
Biology · ऊतक · 15 facts
Tissue: group of similar cells performing specific function
Plant tissues: Meristematic(dividing) and Permanent(mature)
Meristematic: tips of roots/shoots; actively dividing
Parenchyma: most common; stores food; thin cell walls
Collenchyma: provides flexibility; found below epidermis
Sclerenchyma: dead cells; hard; provides rigidity (coconut husk)
Xylem: transports water+minerals upward (root to leaf)
Phloem: transports food downward (leaf to other parts)
Animal tissues: Epithelial, Connective, Muscular, Nervous
Epithelial: body covering; skin, lining of organs
Connective: bone, blood, cartilage, tendons, ligaments
Blood is liquid connective tissue; bone is hardest
Nervous tissue: neurons; transmit electrical signals; brain and spinal cord
Adipose tissue: stores fat; provides insulation and cushioning
Histology is the branch of biology that studies tissues using microscopy
