Wildlife & Gir Forest

Gujarat GK · वन्यजीव और गिर वन

📋Quick Overview

Gujarat is home to some of India's most ecologically unique wildlife sanctuaries and national parks. Gir National Park in the Saurashtra region is the world's ONLY wild habitat of the Asiatic Lion (Panthera leo persica). The Gulf of Kutch houses India's first Marine National Park with rich coral ecosystems. The Little Rann of Kutch protects the Indian Wild Ass (Khur) — the world's last surviving population. The Rann of Kutch is the world's largest flamingo nesting site, and Gujarat's wetlands are critical for migratory birds.

Gir National Park = world's ONLY wild habitat of Asiatic Lion; Lion census 2020: 674 lions (up from 411 in 2010)

Indian Wild Ass (Khur) = found ONLY in Little Rann of Kutch, Gujarat — unique to this region in the world
