📋Quick Overview
Immunity is the body ability to resist infection. Innate immunity = born with (skin, mucus, WBC). Acquired immunity = developed after exposure. Active immunity: body makes antibodies (natural=after infection, artificial=vaccine). Passive immunity: ready-made antibodies given (natural=mother to baby via placenta/milk, artificial=antiserum injection). Edward Jenner gave first vaccine (smallpox, 1796). Antibodies (Y-shaped proteins) fight antigens. Autoimmune disease = immune system attacks own body.
